Ireland’s County Donegal coastline features an array of scenic and Championship golf courses that are some of the best courses in the county.
Our Donegal Explorer package contains some of the most well known in Ireland from Championship hosting Ballyliffin to one of the worlds first “golf resorts” at Rosapenna along with Portsalon GC and the highly underrated Northwest GC.
Our Explorer trip starts off in Ballyliffin, a relative newcomer to the scene with the Old Links and Glashedy Links being laid down in 1973 and 1995, but have hosted the DP Tour Irish Open as well as 2024’s Amateur Championship. You will stay at either the Ballyliffin Lodge, located close to the courses, or The Harbour Inn at Buncrana right opposite third course on your plan, the hidden gem that is Northwest GC. Northwest was established in 1891 and is one of the founding members of the Golfing Union of Ireland and often referred to as the “St Andrews of Ireland” and is one not to miss.
From here you start your trip across Donegal to Rosapenna for your next stay, stopping at another of the founder members of the GUI, Portsalon GC. With mountain and coastal views its has been enhanced on numerous occasions since being laid down in the 1880’s, most recently by 2014 Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley.
Rosapenna is classed as one of the Worlds first true golf resorts after a hotel was built on site shortly after the opening of the Old Tom Morris Links back in 1893. Since then, Rosapenna Resort and the Old Links has undergone many enhancements as well as seeing the arrival of the Sandy Hills Links in 2003 and more recently Tom Doak’s St Patrick’s Links, which opened in 2021. With luxury accommodation and 3 fantastic links experiences, this is now a must visit resort in a peaceful corner of Ireland.

All of the staff at the various courses were very helpful and most welcoming. Members everywhere gave us a friendly welcome and asked where we were playing - excellent hospitality from them all.
